The Future of Farming is Young: Market for Youth Program Wrap-up

Over the past months, we embarked on an inspiring journey with the Market for Youth Program, an initiative designed to equip young agripreneurs with the skills, resources, and networks needed to thrive in Uganda’s agricultural sector. In partnership with GOAL Uganda, Mastercard Foundation, and Young Africa Works, we set out to transform lives and the results speak for themselves.

✅ Over 1,922 agripreneurs enrolled, with 54% female, 1% PWDs, and 8% refugees.

✅ 124% achievement in conducting comprehensive needs assessments across 10 districts.

✅ 152% of the target reached for Private Agriculture Extension Services provision.

✅ 96% completion of foundation entrepreneurship training, equipping agripreneurs with essential business skills.

✅ 100% business registration and formalization, supported by a customized enterprise training curriculum.

✅ 191% achievement in promoting readiness for access to working capital, ensuring financial sustainability.

But behind these numbers are powerful stories of change.

In Hoima, a young farmer doubled her income within three months by applying new business strategies learned from the program.

In Lira, agripreneurs formed a cooperative, increasing their profit margins by 25%, a testament to the power of collaboration.

In Kiryandongo, a refugee youth started a poultry farm that now employs fellow refugees, proving that with the right support, even the most challenging circumstances can turn into opportunities.

The Market for Youth Program has shown that when young people are equipped with knowledge, mentorship, and access to capital, they don’t just grow businesses—they create jobs, drive innovation, and transform communities.

A huge thank you to GOAL Uganda, Mastercard Foundation, Young Africa Works, and all partners who made this impact possible. The journey doesn’t stop here, let’s build on this success and continue shaping the future of agribusiness in Uganda.
