Hive Colab implements transformative projects and programs that build capacity, unlock opportunities and drive sustainable growth across Uganda.
NILE EXPLORER (2017 – 2020)
Partners: USAID & U.S. Mission in Uganda
Reach: Over 90,000 people reached; 40 schools; 10,000 learners directly impacted
An innovative “classroom-on-wheels” mobile education initiative delivering STEM, digital literacy and life skills to underserved youth. Adopted a blended learning model using IVR, SMS and community agents to ensure inclusivity and sustainable peer-to-peer learning. Created pathways for economic empowerment and resilience in rural communities.
DIGITAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (2024 – 2025)
Partners: Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) / UCUSAF
Reach: 15 districts; 2,947 beneficiaries (target met and surpassed)
Bridged the digital divide in rural Uganda by equipping unserved populations with digital competencies, ICT tools for economic empowerment and inclusive participation in the digital economy. Combined hands-on training with mentorship, with emphasis on women and marginalized groups.
UGANDA YOUTH ENGINE (2022 – 2023)
Partners: Norad & GOAL Uganda
Reach: 2,252 participants across 4 districts (Wol 544; Kotomor 514; Geregere 632; Adilang 562)
Strengthened and scaled youth-led agricultural enterprises by providing tailored Business Development Services (BDS), facilitating market linkages and improving access to financial services. Focus on women entrepreneurs for equitable access to training and mentorship.
YOUNG AFRICA WORKS – MARKET FOR YOUTH PROGRAM (May 2023 – Dec 2024)
Partners: GOAL Uganda
Reach: 2,275 agripreneurs trained (126% of target); 290 PAES providers onboarded (145% of target); 1,903 businesses registered
Equipped young agripreneurs with skills, tools and networks to thrive. Ran needs assessments and bootcamps, formalized businesses, and partnered with private sector actors to expand markets, finance and mentorship.
YOUTH STARTUP ACADEMY UGANDA (YSAU) (2022 – 2024)
Partners: KOSME, Government of Uganda, Korean Ministry of SMEs & Startups
Reach: 1,129 young entrepreneurs incubated; 400 startups registered; 2,000+ jobs created
Replicated Korea’s successful startup incubation model with four structured intakes providing entrepreneurship training, hands-on mentorship, consulting services and business registration support.
NINJA – Next Innovation with Japan (July 2021 – Jan 2022)
Partners: JICA Uganda
Reach: Investment Readiness Accelerator for selected startups
Strengthened Uganda’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by advancing entrepreneurship development, promoting business matching and preparing startups for venture investment through tailored training, due diligence and Business Development Services.
HIVE ACCELERATOR PROGRAM (2023 – 2028)
Partners: Argidius Foundation
Reach: 57 startups supported; 104 jobs created; USD 500,000+ raised
Flagship program strengthening Uganda’s startup ecosystem by equipping high-potential, investment-ready businesses in AgTech, MedTech, EdTech, FinTech, GovTech and sustainability with mentorship, business development, financial modeling and investor readiness training.
O-FARMS ACCELERATOR (2022 – 2023)
Partners: Key partners incl. Village Capital
Reach: 18 agribusinesses incubated across 2 cohorts; nearly EUR 100,000 disbursed
Advanced circular agribusinesses by offering intensive training, one-on-one support, market access and funding. Equipped SMEs with practical tools for growth and embedded circularity principles into business models.
STI INNOVATION HUB PROJECT (July 2023 – May 2025)
Partners: STI Uganda
Reach: Platform at sti.affrentice.com (v1.0.3 SRS delivered)
Building a centralized digital platform connecting entrepreneurs with stakeholders, fostering collaboration, skill development, project management and community engagement. Overcame mid-project scope change and remains on track to deliver a functional platform.
UNIFIED IMMIGRATION & BORDER CONTROL PLATFORM (UIBCP) (July 2023 – May 2025)
Partners: Government of Uganda
Reach: Nationwide modernization of immigration processes
Develops and implements a unified, secure immigration and border control system with advanced biometric technologies, pre-arrival visa processing and automated inspection to enhance national security and traveler experience.
FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION (FGM) HACKLAB PROJECT (2023)
Partners: AfriLabs / UNFPA ESA / WFP / SYP
Reach: 6 innovators incubated; 2 flagship innovations (HERStory, Axces Mobile)
Youth-led hacklab tackling climate, GBV and harmful practices. Developed HERStory (community platform) and Axces Mobile (crowdsourced reporting app) providing data-driven evidence and enhancing prevention and response.
ITC MARK-UP II PROJECT (Aug 2025 – ongoing)
Partners: International Trade Centre (ITC) / European Union
Reach: MSMEs across six EAC countries; Uganda focus on youth-led enterprises
Promotes economic growth and strengthens trade in the EAC by addressing barriers, quality compliance and technology transfer. Hive Colab provides mentorship, technical assistance and market access support to MSMEs and youth-led enterprises.
AEDIB|NET BY ENABEL (2023 – 2024)
Partners: ENABEL
Reach: 18 businesses supported in Northern Uganda
Addressed digital skills gap among marginalized groups by establishing a Digital Entrepreneurship Skills Academy with hackathons and summer schools. Empowered youth and women to transform ideas into viable enterprises and strengthen participation in the digital economy.
